Keep family on schedule with Google Calendar
Ethan and I are both excited about his upcoming hockey season. Last season had a rough start since hockey has a steep learning curve for little kids, but by the second month Ethan would tell me to “drive faster, I want to get to practice early”. Hockey was a fantastic experience and for me I loved seeing Ethan and the other kids having so much fun and doing so well…although seeing 4 and 5 year olds skating backwards can be pretty humbling
One thing that caught us off guard was the schedule. Ice time is a precious commodity and unlike other kid sports, hockey did not have a consistent schedule. Practice times varied from 3pm to 6:00 am (ouch!) and the schedules were released every 2 to 3 weeks. To keep ourselves organized I decided to try Google Calendar and we have been using it ever since.
What I love about Google’s calendar is that Heather can make changes at home, I can make changes at work, and we can both see our shared calendar. It is incredibly simple to use and the email notifications remind me of upcoming events. A great feature is the ability to include other calendars. I add the home schedules of local sports teams to make it easy to pick games to take the kids too. I also throw in dates of activities I see in the newspaper in case we find a weekend where we’re looking for something to do – like the Lowes Kids Clinic we’re attending tomorrow.

I’ve tried Google calendar briefly, but find that everyone in the house won’t use it. Activities keep sliding through the cracks. Keeping up with what’s happening in and active household is difficult. Glad you find the Google calendar worthwhile. Sounds like y’all have a busy schedule!
