South Beach Diet Review

Losing weight on the South Beach Diet is still a work in progress for me so I wasn’t sure when I should write about it. I decided to write a little review now and then write some follow-ups as I make progress. I had heard about this diet and the name of it really turned me off, I pictured bikini models going on it to lose 5lbs and it seemed too trendy. I have never gone on a “real” diet that had a name before and figured just trying to eat healthy on my own and limit sweets was the way to go. Well I never had success with that unfortunately. I gained about 60 lbs with my 3rd pregnancy after only gaining 25 and 28lbs with the boys (which I lost it immediately- they were 9 &10 lb babies). I really needed to do something that would really work. This spring my friend Gretchen (a beautiful skinny friend) went on SB and gave me her books to read. It actually made some sense (very different from Atkins) and seemed doable! So I tried it and lost 32lbs over about 3 months (even with changing it a tiny bit and going off it most weekends). I ended up not doing the SB all summer. I had planned to stay with it but I needed a break (due to ice cream season) and unfortunately its hard to get in the right frame of mind to start dieting. Now I’m ready again and have lost at least the 2lbs I had put back on this summer (lots of ice cream and vacationing so it could have been worse!). Again I plan to modify the SB a bit and allow myself to eat things like non 100% whole wheat bread or chocolate on occasion (and of course its okay to be bad at Chuck E Cheese). I think not doing that would lead to failure and I already lost the 32lbs this spring so I know I can do it! Oh and this time I am skipping phase 1 and just starting phase2. Since I’ve never done any other official diet I can’t compare them but I recommend reading the book for yourself and giving it a try! Once you actually get started it isn’t hard. I want to get pregnant after New Years so I have some real motivation to lose weight these next few months! I’ll write an update in 2-3 weeks!
