Geek Tip: Get the most out of your glow sticks

0

With Halloween coming it’s time to grab some glow sticks from the dollar store.  Not only do the kids love getting a few glow bracelets, but they really help keep track of your goblins when it starts getting dark.  Here are two tips to get the most out of your glow sticks:

  1. Active the sticks before your go outside and dip them in hot water.  The heat will accelerate the chemical reaction and make them glow brighter.
  2. At the end of the night, put the glow sticks in the freezer.  This will slow the reaction and give your kids another night of glow.  Put them in hot water again to get them glowing.

We’ve found that different colors glow longer so I recommend getting several colors and letting the kids mix and match.  Shop around because some stores really mark up the price.  If you come across them in the dollar store, stock up!  They’re great in the summer for camping, camp fires, and going to outdoor events at night like fireworks.  The chemical reaction doesn’t start until you bend them so they’ll keep all winter.
