John’s Favorite TV Shows – Fall 2007
A couple weeks ago Heather posted her favorite TV shows filling up our Tivo and I figured it was time to add some of my favorites. Here’s my current list of favorites.
- Doctor Who
- Eureka
- Chuck
- Lost
- Monk
- My Name is Earl
- Stargate
- Scrubs
- Psych
- Survivor
- Amazing Race
- Holmes on Homes
- Back to You
- Samantha Who?
You might have noticed that a new show, Chuck, has made it near the top of my list. This is such a fun show on many levels. It has the spy gadgets and fights, geek jokes, and overall simply funny. I’m a huge fan right out of the gate which really surprised me.
I’ve also found two other half hour comedies that we’re enjoying. Back To You starring Kelsey Grammar and Samantha Who? with Christina Applegate. Both are a fun half hour which is something you need some nights.
I also had high hopes for Torchwood, a Doctor Who spinoff, and Bionic Woman, butboth were real disappointments. Torchwood is just a mess with glaring inconsistencies not just between episodes, but between commercial breaks. Poorly directed and mediocre acting wasted a great idea for spinoff. Bionic Woman, on the other hand, was just boring. Another great premise and looks very slick, but after 3 weeks we just didn’t care. We try to limit our TV time to 1 show a night so we set our standards high. We don’t have the patience for a show to get their act together.
One of the changes to television that has occurred is the breakup of the traditional TV seasons. I really like that our shows aren’t on all at once, but spread out at different times during the year. We always seem to have something on, but never so much that we the need to have a TV marathon to catch up. One show a night with an occasional half hour comedy tacked on and we’re good. We’ve also found time to watch the occasional Netflix movie without the kids. We’re still looking at cutting down our TV and eventually dropping our DirecTV subscription and going completely with antenna and iTunes, but the technology just isn’t there yet.
