Critter Watch

0

For awhile I have been meaning to add a category to our site to keep track of the animals we see. With Spring just around the corner I thought it was a perfect time to start. I am already starting to see animals coming out of hibernation and looking around for food. A real treat this past week was seeing an adult porcupine. Last year we saw 2 baby porcupines on our road.

I have also been seeing a lot of hawks lately. My drive to work is on a highway that follows a decent sized river so I frequently see red tailed hawks (they make the screech you hear at the start of Northern Exposure), broad tail hawks, and the occasional bald eagle. A friend of mine knows all the good hawk and eagle spotting locations and tipped me off to a spot with several nesting bald eagle families. When the weather gets a little warmer we plan to head over there and try to get some pictures.

We’re also planning to build a snake house for Spikey, our friendly backyard garter snake. I’ll post our animal sitings, encounters, and pictures on here along with any animal activities (snake house and bird house building, etc).
