Eagle Spotting

1

This weekend I took the boys on a little adventure to go looking for bald eagles at a nearby lake. They got all their stuff packed in their backpacks and we headed out to make our own adventure.

All the boys (me too) brought binoculars and a camera.
The Adventurers
Our first animal spotting of the trip was this horse.

Our next animal was this beautiful duck who seemed to think he owned the road.

We discovered several nice pulloffs to enjoy the view of the lake and look for animals. We spotted lots of geese, crows, and seagulls.

We looked for eagles over the lake…

and in the trees. No luck. Just too dreary for them to be flying I guess.

We did see this nice herd of grazing deer.

We stopped at one other location and spotted what I think is a bald eagle nest. My friend tipped me off to this location and showed several great pictures of last years nesting pair. We also discovered a public fishing area just a little further down the road with picnic tables. We’ll check back here on a sunnier day and pack a lunch.

No eagles, but we had a lot of fun and took some great pictures. We’ll definitely be back for another adventure when the weather is a little warmed and the sky a little sunnier.

WE love eagle watching! In Nova Scotia they have an event in winter called eagle watch in February. Often times we have seen as many as a dozen in one tree. The nests we tend to find more often though are osprey nests. The power companies put up platforms for them to keep them from nesting on power lines. We get just as excited doing the nest watching. It’s a lot of fun…thanks for sharing your animal hunt.
