Review: Barney Animal ABC DVD

I admit that I am not a Barney person (does any adult admit to being a Barney person?) but I hadn’t actually seen it since I became a mom. When Parent Bloggers Network was looking for people to review the Barney Animal ABC DVD, I decided to give it a chance. It did not completely win me over but all 3 kids LOVED it (and I have survived it being on many times so far). Ben is very into letters right now, loves dinosaurs and he is 3 years old so I can see why he has asked to watch it a ton of times since we got it. 20 month old Jamie gets very excited pointing to all the animals it shows and is captivated by the numerous songs. Ethan is 5 and I thought he’d say Barney was babyish but he didn’t, he loves anything with animals and he had nothing but good things to say about it. Both of my boys thought it was fun finding animals that started with each letter and they have been doing it when we’re not watching the DVD too. I really like how often they showed the letters, I can definitely see it being helpful for learning them. My only issue is that even though its teaching, it jumps from one thing to another too quickly for my taste. Any parent who is already accustomed to Barney will really like this because it is very engaging for the kids and packs in a lot of educational information. We are very close to turning off our satellite dish and just letting the kids see what we select for them on DVD so I think Barney will be appearing on our screen quite a bit more.
