Good Times
The other day I was listening to Jumping Monkeys and something Leo said really hit home for. The person they were interviewing make a joking complain about something their little kids were doing and Leo said “I wish my kids still did that”. He then explained how he misses the time when his kids were little and needed extra help and attention. As teenagers those times are rare and kids grow up so fast.
I’ve been keeping those comments in my mind the last few days and taking a new look at things with the kids. This helped explain why I’ve always enjoyed chasing the kids to bed and, as much as I hate getting up, I enjoy Ben’s late night diaper changes. The last few nights he has been a little insomniac and comes down stairs looking for me to change his diaper around 12am. I don’t want to get out of bed, but once I do I love our late night conversations. He’ll be real sleepy, but also chatty and we’ll talk about events of the day, whatever toy he was playing with or our plans for tomorrow. I always walk back to bed feeling such love for these kids.
Heather likes to say “they are at the perfect age right now”, but we’ve been saying that for a couple years now. I have the feeling we’ll be saying that every year for a long time.
