Breaking and Entering
I can’t decide whether I should be proud or a little disturbed about the other nights adventure. Ben fell asleep on our bed while Ethan and I were out working on the deck. The problem was that he locked the door…and I had no idea where the key was. In fact, I had forgotten that our room actually had a door knob that used a regular key. I banged on the door until my hand hurt, but I knew it was a lost cause because Ben is 3 and spent a day swimming and playing in the sun. Nothing was going to wake him up.
The hinges are on the inside of the room so with no way to gain entrance, Ethan and I went outside to try calling to Ben through the window. The window was higher than I thought and I couldn’t see in so I picked up Ethan who confirmed Ben was sound asleep.
That was when inspiration struck. Our AC was in the window and with a little shoving I moved it all the way over leaving just enough room for a skinny 5 year old to fit through. Ethan was more than happy to volunteer for this mission and I lowered him through the window to open the door.
Needless to say, the next time I go to Lowes to get more decking I will also be bringing home a new doorknob. If this had happened in the winter our choices would have been to cut down the door or sleep on the couch while we waited for Ben to wake up and let himself out.
