Stitches…and then a CAT scan for Ethan
I was sitting here at the computer yesterday morning, I had just fed Jillian to sleep, when the phone rang. I saw from the caller ID that it was school and I figured one of the boys was sick but it was one of the ladies from the main office telling me to come get Ethan because he fell and cut his head on the playground and the nurse thought he needed stitches! I quick called John and told him to get in the car and start driving and then I called my mom but she wasn’t there and then I called our pediatrician and they said to take him right to the ER. Since my mom was out (I forgot she had to go to a funeral) I had to take PJ wearing Jamie and sleeping Jillian (who I woke up putting her in the car seat). I called John from the car and we decided he would meet us at the ER. When I got to the nurse’s office I walked in to Ethan’s teacher and the nurse both leaning over Ethan as he sat in a wheelchair with his head wrapped in a huge bandage and I felt sick to my stomach. It was just such a scary sight but when I walked in I tried to smile and not show him that I was a mess (I practically dropped the baby carseat on the floor and paid no attention to Jamie as I went over to where Ethan was). He looked fine though, even with his bloody hair sticking up from the circle on the top of his head that was not bandaged. The nurse put me at ease by saying maybe he would just need the glue to close it and that he wasn’t showing any signs of concussion. He acted fine and was amazingly good. He continued to be super well behaved as we waited in the ER (amongst some of the grossest sick people I could imagine…flu sick I fear) and he was great for the doctor too, even during the shots and the stitches. I couldn’t have hoped for stitches to go any better. The doctor was a woman and she talked him through everything and made jokes and told him his new nickname was “Bloody Mess” (which he was). Anyway he still showed no concussion signs so she sent us home (actually to McDonalds, where Grandma had taken the middle 2 kids so they didn’t have to stay at the ER with us). All seemed fine until I got him in the house and he said “when Daddy gets home I want to show him my stitches!”, he was starting to get a bit spacey? John had been there when the stitches were done and at McDonalds but we were in separate cars so he wasn’t home yet. Then he dropped some toys … and then he walked into a wall. I started getting nervous and watched him carefully and then he looked funny walking a little later and said he was dizzy and his head hurt. SO I called the pediatrician and she said go back to the ER for a CAT scan. Poor Ethan freaked out, he did not want to go back! John took him and they were there all night. Luckily the CAT scan was fine! No sports or gym for a week and I kept him home today. He is a bit wild and goofy today and not himself but I am hoping that its just from lack of sleep since he didn’t get to bed until after 10:30 last night. I am looking forward to EARLY bedtimes for all of the kids tonight!
*I got pictures of him with my cell phone…not sure how to get them on the computer though!
UPDATE 10-29: Stitches came out yesterday and he is all better! Here are 2 stitches pictures from last week.

Scary! I hope he’s okay.
Oh! That’s so scary! I’m glad your little guy is okay!!
Wow – glad that all is well. I think the walking-into-walls and I-want-to-show-daddy would be much scarier than the stitches part. Probably best to keep him home today, even though it means chaos! Fast healing prayers your way!
